Fred Hoyle (1915–2000)
Fred Hoyle was a distinguished British astronomer and author, best known for his significant contributions to cosmology, particularly his advocacy for the steady-state theory of the universe, and his coining of the term "Big Bang" (which he used disparagingly). Beyond his scientific research, he wrote numerous science fiction novels, often collaborating with his son Geoffrey Hoyle, using his deep scientific understanding to craft imaginative and scientifically grounded narratives. He was knighted in 1972 for his services to astronomy.
